The instrument for proving dead — a two-pole tester that shows voltage without a battery.

  • Two probes — one for each conductor, so the reading comes from the circuit
  • LED voltage indicators — 12 V steps up to 400 V or 690 V
  • Polarity indication — shows which side is live
  • Continuity buzzer and lamp — powered by the instrument's own battery

⚠ Safety note

Proving dead is a sequence, not a poke: test the tester on a known live source, test the circuit, then test the tester on the known source again. A two-pole tester does this properly because it draws its indication from the circuit itself — a single-pole neon screwdriver or a non-contact voltstick is an indication only, and neither is acceptable as proof that a circuit is dead.
