Terminals
  • L and N on a single-phase motor
  • Earth to the motor frame
  • Start and run windings via the capacitor terminals
  • Terminal box — where the supply connects

⚠ Safety note

Motors are hard to start and easy to stall: starting current is typically six times the running current, and a stalled motor draws that continuously until the overload trips. Protection must be sized so the motor starts without nuisance tripping while still clearing a stall — and the frame must be earthed. Always isolate, and remember the capacitor can hold a charge after switch-off.
