Terminals
  • L / N supply in — from the cooker circuit's MCB
  • L / N out to the cooker connection unit or the appliance
  • Earth terminals, usually doubled up as a through connection
  • Socket terminals — fed from the switch on most designs
  • 45 A double-pole switch — isolates both conductors
  • Neon indicator — shows the switch is on
  • 13 A switched socket outlet
  • Cable entry and clamp for 6 mm² or 10 mm² conductors

⚠ Safety note

The switch is the isolator for the cooker circuit, so it has to be within reach of the appliance and clearly labelled — but it only isolates what is downstream of it. The supply terminals stay live with the switch off, and the load can exceed 40 A on a big induction hob, so the terminals must be tightened to the manufacturer's torque and re-checked after the first heat cycle.
